My husband, Arleigh, and I volunteered in Kenya for  two weeks in June 2010, and got inspired!

We volunteered at Nairobi Language Institute (Primary school) in Kenya, through Volunteering Solutions.

The kids we worked with were so sweet, so inspiring, so motivated and so smart!  We loved the experience we had there, and will forever keep these memories alive in our hearts.  We want to continue to be involved with the school even though we are all the way here in Canada. 

For the Class 8 (Grade 8) students, they study very hard to get their grades high enough to be able to apply to highschools.  From there, they then have to pay about $500 in order to attend.  This pays for books, uniform and their boarding costs.

So, we have set up a scholarship so that we can pay for one student every year to go to highschool.  We are calling it the “Merritt Scholarship”.  This year is our first annual “Merritt Scholarship”, and we need your help!  Please consider making a donation on this website under the tab “Make a donation” for us to meet our goal of $500!
